Welcome

Primitive religion is not believed, it is danced!

Arthur Darby Nock

Earth's crammed with heaven,
And every common bush afire with God;
And only he who sees takes off his shoes;
The rest sit round it and pluck blackberries.

Lent 29 - the divine burglar

Matthew 24:42-43 –What a wonderful image of God as a burglar, the divine thief.
Our patterns and character present formidable armor against the Gospel.
The only way truth gets into any of our lives is by God’s trickery, when our guard is down.

Day by day
the same routine
day by day
the same ways of doing and being

I have it down, pat
this life
I have polished and perfected
this self I present to the world

I have laid on layers and layers
of veneer
carefully constructing the container
that I present as me

it is impervious
no one can break through it
nothing can break through it
I hide behind it
and am safe
oh so safe

and then
God’s trickery
In a moment when I least expect it
the sacred sneaks through
the divine burglar comes

and suddenly I am broken open
naked and vulnerable
a sun rise
a picture of my granddaughter
the pain of another
a moment when I am truly touched
soul to soul by a friend

and there it is
there the Sacred is
there truth is

the old is gone
my only option
is the
new
