Who do you trust?

Perhaps we are who we listen to
We are whom we trust
We are whose words we echo
Whose values we live
Whose attitudes we mirror
Whose heart we reflect

We have a choice,
We really do,
About whom we choose to trust

It is a profound choice that changes
Fundamentally
Who we are

When Jesus was baptized God said
“This is my beloved child, listen to him”

And Jesus words echo through the ages
Blessed are
Blessed are you
Blessed are you when

You are poor in spirit,
When you mourn
are meek,
hunger and thirst for righteousness,
show mercy
are pure in heart,
are peacemakers

it is all too clear
in this time when greed, and hate, and a lust for power rule
that this is difficult to do,
and if one seeks to live this way one might even be “persecuted for righteousness' sake”

for sure one will be ridiculed, call a libertard, or a snowflake

but still we are called to carry on
to seek to bind up the wounds
to care for ALL
to create Justice
and seek peace

But our capacity for living this way
The depth of our mercy
Will be profoundly determined
By who we listen to
And whom we trust

Do we listen to, and trust people who would stir our fear,
Or people who would stir our love?

Do we listen to and trust people who live in the light of truth,
Or people who peddle lies and fear?

Whom do we listen to?
Whom do we trust?

For we are who we listen to
We are whom we trust
We are whose words we echo
Whose values we live
Whose attitudes we mirror
Whose heart we reflect
