“If you want to identify me, ask me not where I
live, or what I like to eat, or how I comb my hair, but ask me what I am living
for, in detail, ask me what I think is keeping me from living fully for the
thing I want to live for.” ― Thomas
Merton

Who am I?
What defines me?
Who defines me?
Am I my job
my body
my title
my wealth (or lack thereof)
my successes
my failures?
Who am I?
am I what my education has made me
am I what my family has created?
am I what other people have decided I am
using whatever criteria they have chosen
Who am I?
why do I let that one person (or more)
who don’t like me
affect me so powerfully
or even that person who does like me
who says I am wonderful?
Who am I?
I am
I am a person in whom the sacred dwells
I am a child of God
I am free
I am bound
but ultimately
it is that sacred core
it is that part of me that connects with God
that part of me that participates is “something
greater”
that part of me that is loved
and is love
that defines me
and defines the way I am
in this world
and sets me free
to be
me
