__________________________
do you realize how little we actually control?
Life is “essentially uncontrollable” (Wheatley)
True, we can control what we put in our mouths
what we eat and drink
we can control our thoughts
our responses
even to some degree our actions and reactions
but life happens
and the only control we really have is how
as we experience a particular moment
we feel about, think about, and then respond to that moment
then the world is on to whatever it
is going to do next
and it doesn’t even ask us for permission
being able to understand that our feelings are our feelings
we choose them
and our thoughts (which comes first the thought or the
feeling)
which go with those feelings are also ours
give us out point of focus
I am slowly learning that this is where my energy needs to
go
not in the futile effort to control every thing
but in the important effort to understand my own thoughts
and feelings
and to understand how those realities, which are my
realities, I have created them
are driving my choices, and shaping my moments
as has been noted
“if we learn to control ourselves, the entire world around
us changes” (Wheatley, 2010, p. 107)
