“If I'm confused, or upset, or angry, if I can go out and
look at the stars I'll almost always get back a sense of proportion. It's not
that they make me feel insignificant; it's the very opposite; they make me feel
that everything matters, be it ever so small, and that there's meaning to life
even when it seems most meaningless.”
― Madeleine L'Engle, A Ring of Endless Light

everything matters
we make the mistake sometimes
of thinking nothing matters
or that we don’t matter
that our lives and actions
don’t count,
at least not for much,
in the huge movements of history
but we count
we all do
and so do our actions
who knows what that smile meant?
that moment when you really listened
that time of silent, compassionate presence
that word of encouragement
sometimes the world pivots
on the sparkle of the sunshine on snow
the nudge of a kitten’s nose
the touch of a hand
the hug of a sister
sometimes
