why am I here?

to perform?

to be the “wise man”?

the helper, the healer?

am I here to find fame and fortune?

to accomplish?

to establish my place in the universe?

nothing wrong with

degrees

success

nothing wrong with making things happen,

being a “doer”

but seriously!

all that at best is a means to an end

lest we forget (and we do forget)

it all comes down to being - to being one’s self,

and being present

it is all about

being awake to the sacred (a necessary first step)

being awake to one’s self (a necessary second step)

and finally awake to those around you

seeing them

and then being there

to listen

to witness

to care

about all the pain and misery

we find

not to fix it

but to hold it

gently

all of it

that pain, that fear

even the joy

because being there for one another

is

everything
