What would the world be, once bereft
Of wet and of wildness? Let them be left,
O let them be left, wildness and wet;
Long live the weeds and the wilderness yet.

Poems

in the place of power (Washington DC)
everything is ordered and cool
stately buildings and marble halls
tidy people in their power clothes
groomed and proper
so careful
so rigid
so unable to create change
forget the orderly one’s
what we really need are a few weeds
wet and wild
we need a Jesus, a Gandhi, a Martin Luther King
we need a Bonhoeffer,
a Robert Kennedy, a Dali Lama, a Thich Nhat Hanh
a Nelson Mandela
we need people (and to be people)
who are open to the
disturbing influence of the Sacred
who are willing to be watered by Spirit
and fed by Sacred Presence
who are willing to grow wildly, uncontrolled
who are willing to give extravagantly
and love wildly
and be
the
change
