“One of the tasks of true friendship is to listen
compassionately and creatively to the hidden silences. Often secrets are not
revealed in words, they lie concealed in the silence between the words or in
the depth of what is unsayable between two people.”
John O'Donohue, Anam Cara: A Book of Celtic

Slowly the light is consumed by darkness
the pickups no longer rattle down the road
and the sounds of the day
are muted
cloaked by night
the stars shyly peek out through the darkness
gathering points of light
as the moon creeps above the mountain tops
shining a ghostly light
across the ground
the deepening silence reveals
hidden sounds
the hoot of an owl
a calf search for its mother
at the foot of the hills
a coyote choir
sings
and in this quiet space
the sound of my heart
beating in the silence
the grudging creaking of my joints
and my murmuring mind
shout secrets
long hidden
into
the ears of God
