It is hard

When you think you have been wronged

When you have been wronged

To let it go

To just

Let

It go

And yet

If we do not

All that is ugly

And angry

Wins

Forgiveness is not easy

It is not necessarily forgetting

It is not condoning

It is not a one-time act

It is perhaps

Most simply

Refusing to carry hate

Refusing to be trapped by the past

It is act of courage

It is something we practice

Poorly at times

And with mixed success

But we practice and practice

We go back to the well of Sacred Love

Again and again

Until eventually

The pain in our hearts

Melts

And we are free
