Welcome

Primitive religion is not believed, it is danced!

Arthur Darby Nock

Earth's crammed with heaven,
And every common bush afire with God;
And only he who sees takes off his shoes;
The rest sit round it and pluck blackberries.

Knowing God -

Since no one really knows anything about God,

those who think they do are just troublemakers

Ah, God
up there
out there
unknowable
really really big
infinite

wait!

Ah, God
down here
baby sized
inside
Holy Spirit
knowable
infinite in the finite

the Word became flesh
and walked among us
full of love and grace

unexpected
unpredictable
scandalous
a friend of the poor
the wounded

a person of compassion
 who gave
and forgave
who healed the sick
clothed the poor
fed the hungry
healed those who were wounded
by nature and life

it is not that we do not know God
we forget
what we know

Spirit Hands

They can be a great help – words
they can become the spirit’s hands
and lift and
caress
you
                                                Meister Eckhart

Words
words
words
words
words
words

we say
it is nothing but words

and yet, and yet

praise or complaint
love or hate

all comes spilling forth from our
souls
through words

written or spoken

with deep listening
and loving speech

we can indeed be
healers

Lord this day
May I have eyes that see
Ears that hear
And may my words
be
spirit
hands

Amen!

First Day

First sun
weakly filtered
pink
through frigid skies

hoar frost
coating nude branches
glistening
sacred sequins

fresh snow
stippled by nocturnal feet
lightly prancing

and so
newly comes the day
newly comes the year

into its startling freshness
I step
