Welcome

Primitive religion is not believed, it is danced!

Arthur Darby Nock

Earth's crammed with heaven,
And every common bush afire with God;
And only he who sees takes off his shoes;
The rest sit round it and pluck blackberries.

Who Are We ?

“If we come to sleep
we are His drowsy ones
And if we come to wake
we are in His hands

If we come to weeping
we are His cloud full of raindrops
And if we come to laughing
we are His lightning in that moment

If we come to anger and battle
it is the reflection of His wrath
And if we come to peace and pardon
it is the reflection of His love

Who are we in this complicated world?”
― Rumi

Who are we?
Who are we in this complicated worth
with its polarity
its dualism
with it mad politicians
and its complexity?

who are we in this world
which so often makes no sense?

where the good suffer
and the evil flourish?

who are we in this place where guns
and greed are worshiped
and children are left hungry
and ill?

we are the bearers of the Sacred

we must never forget

the abyss

"What can we gain by sailing to the moon if we are not able to cross the abyss that separates us from ourselves? This is the most important of all voyages of discovery, and without it, all the rest are not only useless, but disastrous." --THOMAS MERTON

O Lord
this is the day you have made

and in this day
we will eat and drink
we will drive
and play Words with Friends on our cell phones

we will go to work
and suffer through meetings
we will do the tasks placed in front of us

and perhaps
perhaps
even do a charitable act or two

but Lord
on this Hollows Eve
the greatest specter
that haunts our way
is not the costume bedecked child
is not the horrible boss
is not the inept politician who raises our ire
is not the person who makes our lives miserable

it is empty space
it is the abyss
between ourselves
and our selves

help us this day
O Lord
to connect with ourselves
to be in touch
intimate
with that person within
who is most “us”

and with that person within
who is
YOU

and being so connected
enable us to walk through our days
aware

aware of love
of life
of ourselves
and of others

otherwise Lord
it is
a
disaster!

AMEN

Sacred Space

There is no spot on earth that ever became sacred until something danced there;
Maybe it was just an atom or two….
There is no place in existence that ever became sacred until something sang there
Even be it just a molecule.
That is enough
I hear they croon all the time
                                       Hafiz

some talk about the lessons of trial
and suffering
and call them necessary
for spiritual growth
some (including Jesus) hint that
falling
precedes
rising

Ah yes
There is something in that
but it is not only
pain and suffering
blood and tears that mark a space sacred

so does joy
and celebration
and love
