Welcome

Primitive religion is not believed, it is danced!

Arthur Darby Nock

Earth's crammed with heaven,
And every common bush afire with God;
And only he who sees takes off his shoes;
The rest sit round it and pluck blackberries.

Day dawns

I think over again my small adventures, my fears, those small ones that seemed so big, all those vital things I had to get and to reach, and yet there is only one great thing: to live and see the great day that dawns, and the light that fills the world."
                                                                                      Old Inuit Song

there is a moment
when nothing else matters
not house or cars
titles or incomes

there is a time
when nothing else matters
not degrees
nor accomplishments

when I walk into the early morning
and hear the borning cry of all creation
the hoot of the owl
and the screech of the hawk

When the sun crests the horizon
and all creation rejoices
in a blaze of yellow and orange

nothing matters
except the light
and the new day

this is the day
to rejoice and be glad
this is the day
to live and love
this is
the
day

and so too
sacred awakens in my soul
and nothing matters
except the light
and this moment

Practice Resurrection

So, friends, every day do something that won't compute...Give your approval to all you cannot understand...Ask the questions that have no answers. Put your faith in two inches of humus that will build under the trees every thousand years...Laugh. Be joyful though you have considered all the facts....Practice resurrection.”
Wendell Berry, The Country of Marriage

what did I do today?

pulled some weeds
worked at transplanting some seedling
watered some flowers

looked at very old pictures
in very old albums
of very old people
when they were not so very old

fixed a fence

in a world that seems all too fond of anger,
hate and death

where bad people have power
and good people get crushed

I chose live
as though life and love win

I chose
to practice resurrection

Every moment

Every moment, a new beauty.

the morning sun
bursts into the new day
vibrant rays
racing each other through the trees
shafts of fire
setting ablaze the grass and bringing
the vibrant purples of the lupine
alive

Aspen twirling in the wind
an eagle, wind hovering
in cobalt blue

light glistening on Hurricane creek
diamonds dancing down the canyon

a little buck
nubs only
stands in adolescent splendor
golden brown against the green

an owl hoots
his haunting call
echoing through the hot dusty
afternoon

killdeer dancing
quail scurrying
cats pouncing
horses dozing

coolness coming
darkness falling
coyotes laughing

sun setting
one last gasp
then gone

every moment
a new
beauty
