What is against life will be destroyed by life, for what is against life is against God

I forget, sometimes

how powerful “life” is

which is another way of saying

that I forget how powerful Sacred is

or to put it yet another way, how powerful God is

 

you would think I would know better

for life is all around me

in the beauty of the sunrise and sunset

in the soaring mountain

which blesses me each day

 

in the frolicking cats

and my playful dog

 

life is all around me

in the feisty 90 plus year old

who though wrinkled and a bit frail

oozes vitality

 

it is in the caring face of the young mother

and her beautiful caring children who

in better times, grace the front pew of the sanctuary

 

life is there in the face of my patients with mental health issues

as they seek to re-discover who they are

 

life is persistent

stubborn even

 

and just as concrete and asphalt cannot

overcome the “life” of that recalcitrant weed

so the forces of death that press down on us

 

cannot overcome

the life within in

that powerful force that is nothing more

and nothing less than God

indwelling

 

pushing out from the center of who we are

from that deep place where the Sacred dwells

through all our doubt

and all our fear

 

through all our confusion

pushing out and up

into the air

 

pushing back

the forces of death

whether they be viruses

or ideologies that maim and destroy

 

there may be times when it feels

as thought death might win

 

but it never

ever

does

 

in the end
