Welcome

Primitive religion is not believed, it is danced!

Arthur Darby Nock

Earth's crammed with heaven,
And every common bush afire with God;
And only he who sees takes off his shoes;
The rest sit round it and pluck blackberries.

Knowing God

You cannot learn about love
Love appears on the wings of grace
                                           Rumi
_____________________________

I love books
In my house there are books everywhere

stately hardbounds
tattered paperbacks

on shelves
in piles on my desk
on nightstands
in closets

new books
old books
classics
and yes, mysteries

philosophy
psychology
and theology abound

these are my friends
my instructors
my wise mentors

and yet
some things cannot come out of a book
(as much as it pains me to say it)

God, is not found in a book
We can learn some things about God
in a book
although we are gifted at getting it wrong

but we cannot learn to know God
through a book

we learn to know God
through a baby’s smile
a flower in spring
a doe in the meadow
an eagle on the wing
we only learn about love
when we experience it

when we are treated with compassion
and forgiven
even when we haven’t “earned” it

we learn about love when we are seen as beautiful
and witty, and wise.
even when we aren’t

when that love comes from God
its called grace
and when we know grace
we know God
