I am a wanderer. I would say that I am a seeker, but sometimes I have no idea what I might be seeking, so I will stick with wanderer. This blog is more a public journal than anything. I don't claim to have life figured out. I simply stumble from mystery to mystery, and share my reflections along the way. Sometimes I feel burdened, and trudge. Sometimes? Well sometimes grace breaks through, and its time to dance.

POWER to you
When i was growing up
we used to say
in all sincerity
power to you
we meant it for good
but these days i have
an ambivalent relationship with power
am I talking about power to do?
or power to be?
The power to do
meaning the power to have influence
to do things
is a bit scary
because so many people seem to abuse their power
give a person political power
and watch out
we see power being used to disenfranchise people
to promote hate
to wound
destroy
to shut down government for many
for the benefit of a few
we see people with this kind of power
in their power suits
strut around looking important
while totally failing to use their power for good
but the power to be!
ah that is something else
wishing inner power
the power to be who one was created to be
the power that comes from being connected to the sacred
this I think
is a good thing
for out of that power comes true power
people with that kind of power
touch the world in a much different way
Think of Mother Theresa
Martin Luther King
Rosa Parks
so.....
power to you

In the Big Book of AA page 64 it states (We suffer from a spiritual Malady, Lack of Power)The spiritual malady creates fear, emotional insecurity and instability, trouble in personal relationships, an inability to manage life, misery and pain. It’s the gut feeling in someone that the world is no good and may even be out to get them. It’s the sick feeling in the pit of someone’s stomach when they think about their life. Its fear of what people think. Its feeling like no matter what they are not like everyone else and don’t fit in. Its residing in a family and not feeling a part of that family. These are all common descriptions of the spiritual malady for anyone actually. The desire for power is the desire for a sense of security and well being that paradoxially can only be achieved by surrender to the greater power of our God. True peace then is achieved. God has such a sense of humor hang on do the maize try try again or trust let go let God no matter what he loves us are we just willing to let Him.
ReplyDeleteA different way of saying what I was saying..
Deletetrying to use power to grab control (so we can feel in power, in control, safe, whatever) rather than nurturing the power of God in us, and letting that essential, move forth out of us a transform the way we interact with the world
