Welcome

Primitive religion is not believed, it is danced!

Arthur Darby Nock

Earth's crammed with heaven,
And every common bush afire with God;
And only he who sees takes off his shoes;
The rest sit round it and pluck blackberries.

The visitors - Advent

Know the true nature of your
Beloved

In God’s
loving eyes
your every thought, word, and movement
is always, always

beautiful

Hafiz

The birth announcement came
a vague sign in the heavens
a star
only partly understood

detailed instructions
given as you are wont to do
my Beloved
though prophets

and then
through those teachers of the law
who
reading and interpret
would make the Word
everything
even to the point of making it nothing

it came through voices and songs
filling the sky
not so subtle

so invited
they gathered around a birth bed

a motley crew
an odd assortment of the low
the rejected
and the unexpected

shepherds, dirty and exclude
magi, affluent, imperious, but alien
perhaps a cow or pig or two
a chicken, head cocked
wondering where she was going to lay her egg
now that her normal spot was occupied

some, hanging around the edges of the scene
unseen
a street person or two or three
a curious merchant
the owner of the house
concerned perhaps about liability

and you started up
a red and wrinkled king
un-kingly

and looked at those odd
and dirty
and alien
and confused faces

and thought
how beautiful
how beautiful
