Welcome

Primitive religion is not believed, it is danced!

Arthur Darby Nock

Earth's crammed with heaven,
And every common bush afire with God;
And only he who sees takes off his shoes;
The rest sit round it and pluck blackberries.

Lent 39 - Good Friday

It’s a good Friday
the rains have come and washed
the earth
and all is fresh and new

the sun struggles to rise
through the tattered remnants of clouds
and the sky burns golden

in the cool shadows of the big firs
bushes lurk
a few buds just beginning to add a
touch of green to branches long dead

a resurrection of sorts
this morning
this spring

it is GOOD FRIDAY
on this day we remember
a moment
a turning point

when Jesus
fully human
fully sacred
let the forces of fear and greed and dead
appear to win

refusing to fight fear with fear
and violence with violence
he modeled a new way
to overcome that which ails the world

and though the trial
and walk of hate
and the cross
with all its ugliness
and that death
seemed so very bad

it was a good Friday
for in the darkness light flickered
in the midst of hate love stilled burned
in the death life remained
and gained

for when Jesus died in love
as he lived in love
death started working backwards (CS Lewis)

not because he satisfied a savage brutal God
but because he modeled the way a loving God works
the way of love and reconciliation and restoration

and soon
resurrection

it was a good Friday
it is a good Friday
