Primitive religion is not believed, it is danced!

Arthur Darby Nock

Earth's crammed with heaven,
And every common bush afire with God;
And only he who sees takes off his shoes;
The rest sit round it and pluck blackberries.

Antidote to Fear

Antidote to fear
When the sun within speaks, when love
reaches out its hand and places it upon

any power the stars and planets might
have upon us

and fears you can muster can become so
rightfully insignificant.
What one heart can do for another heart,
is there any beauty in the world that can
match this?
Brotherhood, sisterhood, humanity becomes
the joy and the emancipation.

it happens so often
I make the mistake of going to the comments section
of blogs
or news articles

or I click on a "picture" on facebook
with some clever saying

and I am tumbled and tossed by an ocean
of hate.  I am assailed by blind rhetoric that
has no other purpose than to wound, and hurt

where does it come from
this anger and hate
that is so palpable it has almost a physical presence
and slams into my body like a fist?

I can only believe that it comes from fear
fear of "them"
fear of change
fear of what we don't understand
fear that our values and believes are being eroded

we are so quick to believe the voice of fear
that those "liberals" (hate word) are going to destroy Christmas
that those "right wing crazies" are going to flood the world with guns

and in fear
even those of us who like to think
we are rational, good people
get sucked into the vortex
we are being pulled down to a place
that must make God weep

but God reminds us
that perfect love casts out fear
it is indeed, when love reaches out its hand
and places it on another
that the sanity returns
and fears become insignificant

it is when we listen with the ears of love
look at the other with the eyes of love
feel for and with the other
with a heart open to love

that this anger and division
will begin to dissolve
and we will begin
to live again
in hope and joy

and love?
it comes from the Sacred
the Sacred is love

the antidote to fear
