I am a wanderer. I would say that I am a seeker, but sometimes I have no idea what I might be seeking, so I will stick with wanderer. This blog is more a public journal than anything. I don't claim to have life figured out. I simply stumble from mystery to mystery, and share my reflections along the way. Sometimes I feel burdened, and trudge. Sometimes? Well sometimes grace breaks through, and its time to dance.

Our God is too small, and therin lies the problem
“Religion is nothing but institutionalized mysticism. The
catch is, mysticism does not lend itself to institutionalization. The moment we
attempt to organize mysticism, we destroy its essence. Religion, then, is
mysticism in which the mystical has been killed. Or, at least diminished.”
― Tom Robbins

The Sacred is
Not something we can wholly understand
The Sacred is
too big
too loving
too forgiving
every time we try to describe the Sacred (call it God if you
like)
every time we try to explain who God is (there is a problem
right there
the moment we anthropomorphize the Sacred we are in trouble)
or what the Sacred is like
or what the Sacred does
we fail
and in failing we create
an image, and understanding
which is too small
this is to be expected
this is forgivable
we do the best we can!
what creates all the pain
and anguish
what makes our strivings so
terrible
and dark
is our failure to understand
that we do not understand
that all our images are inadequate
our failure to see that our reduction of the mystery
which is the Sacred
our reduction of the
Holy Other
Into a Cosmic Busboy
Created in our image and for our benefit
God (for I will call the Sacred that)
cannot be found in concepts created by men and women
God can only truly be experienced
mystery
