Welcome

Primitive religion is not believed, it is danced!

Arthur Darby Nock

Earth's crammed with heaven,
And every common bush afire with God;
And only he who sees takes off his shoes;
The rest sit round it and pluck blackberries.

Children of the Storm, Children of the Sacred

How should we be able to forget those ancient myths that are at the beginning of all people, the myths about dragons that at the last moment turn into princesses; perhaps all the dragons of our lives are princesses who are only waiting to see us once beautiful and brave. Perhaps everything terrible is in its deepest being something helpless that wants help from us.
Rainer Maria Rilke

in the oldest stories
in the deepest myths
truths lurk

in the myths about great quests
lies the truth that all of
are seeking to find out way home
(perhaps without realizing that in a real sense we are always at home)

the stories of dragons
and princesses (and princes)
in the stories replete with magical powers
and fairies and elves and dwarves

are really stories
about our daily lives
and Walmart
and work
and family

my favorite stories are the ones
which remind me
that in the midst of trial, pain, and tragedy
there an ending that involves hope
and deep resolution

there is healing
and reconciliation
and joy
and love

what is common to all of these stories
is the struggle the heroine or hero has
finding their own power

in the midst of the trial
their vision of themselves is often wanting
asleep
untapped
unused
it is when they realize who they really are
and what powers they really have
(whether those powers are inherent in them,
or are obtained by a magical connected with something outside themselves)

that the story turns
and the darkness begins to fade
the power of evil, hate and fear begins to wane

the moral of the story is
we need to find who we really are
the most powerful and important journey we will ever take
will be the journey inward
to the center of who we are
to that place where we are defined
not by our own sense of inadequacy
or by voices from outside ourselves, which erode and wound

but by the Sacred One
who is there, in that deepest of places

we can voice this new reality anyway we want

For me I voice it this way

“See what great love God has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!”

We are all princes
And princesses

Believe it
