Welcome

Primitive religion is not believed, it is danced!

Arthur Darby Nock

Earth's crammed with heaven,
And every common bush afire with God;
And only he who sees takes off his shoes;
The rest sit round it and pluck blackberries.

The Subject is Sin

When a preacher stoops to scare tactics
It is often wise to stand aloof,
For some gods may lose their patience
And start to throw their shoes at him.

The subject today God
is sin
you heard me
sin

Sin
SIN

yes the big three letter word
with which we struggle so much

we have so many thoughts about sin
sin is failure
sin is rejection of God
sin is breaking the rules

sin is so many things
in our minds
that are dark
and dangerous

and the way of sin is the way of death

but the word Lord, means to “miss the mark”
why don’t we just go with that, O Sacred one?

sin is whenever we miss the mark
which is to say
whenever we are not who we were created to be
whenever we are not living out our full potential

you created us Lord to be connected to
the source of all
you created us to be connected to YOU

you created us to love
you created us for kindness

it is when we forget to love
and be kind
that we have missed the mark
you are not nearly as worried about all those
rules we think are so important
you just want us to love each other, and treat each other with kindness
(oh yes, and treat ourselves that way as well)

if we do, everything else falls into place

so when we get “lost” (see previous post)
and confused
and “miss the mark”
then……

ah
that is the bigger question isn’t it

it is a good thing you never sin God
that you always see us
with the eyes of love and compassion

and gently
lovingly
compassionately
perhaps even passionately

as a shepherd
help us find You
and our selves
and become what we were created to be

ok
we never really get there
but at least
we can be on the way

and God, I suspect
that makes you smile
