Welcome

Primitive religion is not believed, it is danced!

Arthur Darby Nock

Earth's crammed with heaven,
And every common bush afire with God;
And only he who sees takes off his shoes;
The rest sit round it and pluck blackberries.

So the Sacred Comes

“There's a lovely Hasidic story of a rabbi who always told his people that if they studied the Torah, it would put Scripture on their hearts. One of them asked, "Why on our hearts, and not in them?" The rabbi answered, "Only God can put Scripture inside. But reading sacred text can put it on your heart, and then when your hearts break, the holy words will fall inside.”

The porch is warm
spring sun filtering through the firs
dappled across the bright green of the lawn

the mountain
shaking the snow from her shoulders
sits grandly
looming over the valley

a couple of does pick their way through the
junipers across the fence
and quail dart through the grass
as killdeer sing
somewhere

and so
gently without effort
without a prayer
or a word
my heart is filled

the Sacred is like that
it
just
comes
