Welcome

Primitive religion is not believed, it is danced!

Arthur Darby Nock

Earth's crammed with heaven,
And every common bush afire with God;
And only he who sees takes off his shoes;
The rest sit round it and pluck blackberries.

Lent 3 - Who Would Jesus See?

We see things as they are not, because we see them centered on ourselves. Fear, anxiety, greed, ambition and our hopeless need for pleasure all distort the image of reality that is reflected in our minds.

All of life is seen through a “glass darkly”
each of us sees the world
the people in it
through the lenses of our own thoughts, values, and experiences
and thus through
our own fear, anxiety, greed, and anger

and thus we interpret the world
from the focal point of self
a wounded self

what looks like blindness
is not blindness
it is altered sight

through the lens of power and wealth
the rich see the poor as lazy and worse

through the lens of poverty
the poor see the world as a place of injustice
(which it is) and can no longer muster the
energy (difficult on an empty stomach) to strive

only one thing can correct these distortions
GRACE

God’s love
The inner presence of the Sacred

People often ask, “What would Jesus do” (WWJD)
Perhaps the truly profound and important question is this….
“What would Jesus see?”  (or perhaps “Who would Jesus see”)
WWJS

we need the eyes of grace
we need the eyes of love
we need to see people the way Jesus saw people
(and sees them still)

On this 3rd day of Lent
Let us challenge ourselves to see all who cross our path
Through the eyes of Christ (the eyes of grace)
